Files in Category:Dubai Marina edit

The subjects of all of these images are modern buildings. The images infringe on the copyrights owned by the various architexcts.

  •  Keep

Obs, I insert columns because it was a ridiculous huge list.

I didn't look through all nominated files, only a sample, but from what I see the majority is indeed just about general views, skylines, beaches, and the similar. Does the allegedly experienced admin, who created this RfD, not know how to do mass RfD properly and how to detect copyright violations among non-problematic stuff? --A.Savin 20:07, 4 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • "UAE goverment should make a move to FoP or deal with absence of pictures of their country in Wikipedia"
First, Commons is not a Wikipedia repository;
Second, you can not request deletion of material in a politic act.
  • "trees grown in particular order"
So every corridor of trees next to a road is copyright material?
  • "space organization"
Every football field (3 rectangle, 1 circle), every pool in bean format, every round patio, is copyright material?
  • "No FoP = no free cityscapes"
...

  • Please remember that de minimis requires that if the copyrighted work or works were removed from the image, the average viewer would not notice the difference. Since a cityscape consisting entirely of copyrighted buildings would be a blank page if all of them were removed, any cityscape obviously fails the de minimis test. That is true of all of the images above.
File:UAE Dubai Marina img2 asv2018-01.jpg does show a train as the principal object, but the train itself is painted in a livery that is far above the ToO, and, again, if the copyrighted buildings were removed, the train would be shown against a white background.
File:20th Floor, Junior Suite, Mövenpick Hotel, JBR - panoramio.jpg has copyrighted buildings in the foreground and background. It is probably true that the background buildings meet the DM test, but the foreground certainly does not.
and so forth. .     Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 16:32, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Jameslwoodward: So, if "any cityscape obviously fails the de minimis test" is true, that means that COM:DM with all the examples of DM including cityscapes is null and void and its authors are lying? Interesting. --A.Savin 17:45, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Regarding the livery on tram, it's unbelievable bullshit that is truly uncalled for, especially from an admin. Don't you know that advertising is subject to DM too, if it's not the picture's subject? Do you know the Category:Advertisements on trams, whose content, if you were right, is to be deleted even for countries with full FoP, because knowingly advertising is never permanent? --A.Savin 17:52, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
"Lying" is a very strong word, which I don't like seeing on Commons. I would say "mistaken". I have nominated "all of the examples" --two-- for deletion.
And, you can't have it both ways -- either the train is the principal subject of the image, in which case its livery is a problem, or it is not and the buildings are a problem. Fundamentally, everything of interest in that image except the train car itself has a copyright. .     Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 18:02, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This rather reminds me of "all are ghost-drivers" attitude. By now, you failed to cite any of the Commons' policies that would explain DM the way you do. You are just stating what you think for yourself and what you maybe (for whatever reason) would like to see as official policy. But if you wish to establish any different policy, including a more restrictive one, you have to start a Reqest for Comment at the very least. And yes, File:UAE Dubai Marina img2 asv2018-01.jpg the tram is the main subject. But I strongly disagree that the livery is the problem. Please provide any evidence that the livery as a whole is to ever consider a copyrighted work. The livery includes some pictures (which, in addition, are hardly to identify due to the angle of view to the front of the vehicle), as well as inscriptions in Arabic, which obviously are non-copyrightable. So, the only copyrightable thing about the tram are the pictures, but they are quite obviously DM. Again: According to the currently valid policy such as COM:DM, cityscapes are OK, and what you think is irrelevant as long as you haven't made an RfC and reached consensus. --A.Savin 18:18, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I looked at the flies singled out by Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton and A.Savin and kept most of them since they look de minimis for me (including the tram: It indeed has advertisement but the advertisement is not really visible and does not infringe copyright). Some of the others look copyrightable, but there are so many of them I do not have time to look at all the photos, and these should be assessed individually.--Ymblanter (talk) 22:20, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have now checked all remaining files:

to  Delete

to  Keep per COM:DM

undecided / borderline

--A.Savin 12:33, 15 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I deleted what you indicated for deletion. Will check others later, I still have some doubts about some of them.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:30, 15 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Deleted: I sorted them: some kept, some deleted. If someone feels strongly about particulat files which should be deleted or kept, please file a DR, but for individual files, not for the whole batch. --Ymblanter (talk) 11:04, 23 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
